(2 problems similar to problems in the problem sets, 2 problems similar to Mastering physics problems, and 2 problems that you should be able to do if you understood the problems in the mastering physics and problem set problems.)

[25 January, 17]: Lecture note for today (Lecutre note 16) posted. Since we did not cover chapter 19 fully today, you are *not* responsible for Mastering physics on Chapter 19. The final exam will *not* cover Chapter 19.

Information about the midterm exam (on Wednesday 14 December):

1. The midterm exam will have six problems, each with parts. Two problems will be similar to the problems that appear in the problems sets 1-3, two problems will be similar to the problems that appear in Mastering physics (Chapters 2-10), and two problems will be new problems that you should be able to solve if you understood the problems that we have been doing in Mastering physics and the problem sets.

2. The midterm will be for 3 hours in TN-TZ F4.25,  during 9:00 - 12:00 hr.

3. Bring your ID as you will not be allowed to enter and take the exam unless you have a valid ID. There will be proctors who will check this.

4. You will be given a formula sheet. You’re allowed to bring a non-programmable calculator (calculator with basic arithmetic functions).

5. Instead of a problem set 4, I posted the midterm exams from the previous two years and their solutions on our course website. Please try these problems this week and ask your TAs for help. Note that some of the topics covered in 2014 and 2015 are different from what we covered this year.

Regarding problem set 3:
There were some errors in the previous version of problem set 3. I have just posted the revised version of the problem set. Please download it again to get the correct version.

- Corrected a sign mistake: Problem 3d :  Work that *you* do = + Delta U   (work that gravity does = - Delta U)  ; here U = gravitational potential energy of the whole system.

- Problem 4a:  Now only asking for x-component of the center of the mass’ position. Calculating the y-component is more difficult. In fact, the answer that I previously gave is incorrect.

-Problem 6: Mass of the the person walking on the boat is now given as “m”
